Roads and Highways

INGETEC S.A. has been a leader in Colombia’s road and highway infrastructure, from the planning stage and feasibility studies to the detail designs, supervision, and project management of nearly 6,000 kilometers of roads, highways and railways. This figure includes some 76 kilometers of road tunnels and 11 kilometers of bridges.

Among the most outstanding road projects undertaken recently by INGETEC the following are mentioned:

Bogotá - Villavicencio Highway: construction supervision of the highway rehabilitation and improvement works. The contracts included 33 kilometers of highways, specifically the stretches between stations K 55 (Téllez Bridge) and K 87 (Pipiral); of the latter stretch, 4.6 km correspond to the Bijagual and Buenavista vehicular tunnels. Rehabilitation included the design of 23 bridges with a total span of 2.02 km and intermediate spans of 200 m.

Bogotá - Girardot Highway: This highway is part of the Bogotá - Buenaventura Highway corridor, the main highway connecting the country’s central and western regions. With a total length of 126 km, it is located in both Administrative Departments of Cundinamarca and Tolima. INGETEC is currently preparing the detail designs for the concession for the rehabilitation and widening from a two-lane to a four-lane traffic highway.

San Jerónimo Road Tunnel, Antioquia, Colombia: During 1998, INGETEC carried out the detailed designs for Impregilo S.p.A., the main tunnel contractor for the 4,603-m long, 11.5 m diameter San Jerónimo Road Tunnel.

La Mamora – Emborozu Road, Bolivia: As part of the Mamora – Desemboque road, the joint venture INGETEC - ECOVIANA carried out the engineering supervision works between 1997a and 1999, as well as the revision and complement of the detail designs for this 20-km long road.

Avenida del Río Road - Barranquilla, Colombia: The detailed designs were undertaken in 1997/98; this new 8.6 km long, four-lane project’s objective is to speed-up traffic between the entrance and exit of Barranquilla’s Free Port Zone and the industrial quarter of the city and onto the rest of the country.
