Pumarejo Bridge

The joint venture INGETEC S.A.- TAMS of New York undertook for the Ministry of Public Works, the basic design and the supervision during construction of the 1,500-m long bridge over the Magdalena River in Barranquilla, put into service in 1974.

It is a concrete structure with 28 supporting piers and two abutments, for two 46-m long spans, twenty-four 74-m spans, two 69.50-m spans and a main 140-m continuous span suspended by steel cables embedded in pre-stressed concrete, and 21-m high portals supported by two central towers.

The main span is composed of a 3-m high concrete girder box, 3-m high by 7-m wide at the base and 12.50 m wide at the top, mounted on four fixed pile supports and four tie rod stays.

The main supporting piers are cylindrical, 5 m diameter, supported on a bearing shoe with 1.08-m diameter piles; the piles of the smaller spans are cylindrical, 2.50 m diameter, stressed by post-tensioned vertical cables.
