Bogotá – Girardot Highway

The Bogotá - Girardot highway is part of the Bogotá - Buenaventura Highway System, the main connection between the country’s central and western and southern regions. The road is located in the Administrative Departments of Cundinamarca and Tolima.

The activities carried out by INGETEC included the study of road accesses to Bogotá from the south and southwest and the studies for the concession contract for the Bogotá – Girardot highway.

The general objective was the study of the widening of the present two-lane road to a four-lane traffic highway, with a central median barrier and shoulders, between Chusacá and Girardot (rural sector) and provide an integral solution to traffic arriving to Bogotá from the south. The works included the design of overpasses and bridges of varying lengths: 164 m (Magdalena and Sumapaz Rivers), 170 m (Panches River), 135 m and 110 (Sumapaz River), 210 m (Muña Viaduct-Phase II), Melgar Alternate Road, Boquerón Alternate Road and design of the 4,100-m long Sumapaz tunnel.
