Termoyopal

Thermal power plant for gas-fed electric power generation. Two units: one 20, one 30 MW.

Services rendered:

Project management, procurement, construction and erection supervision, start-up and commissioning of the power station under coordination of various contractors. The scope of the work performed in the power station was the following:

  • Turbo-generating units: disassembly, crating, loading, unloading, erection, start-up and commissioning of turbo-generating Units 4 and 5 from Termo-Barranca in Barrancabermeja to a new location known as El Morro, jurisdiction of Yopal, Administrative Department of Casanare.
  • Infrastructure civil works: ground preparation and slab construction for the unit’s foundation to be installed in the control and administrative building, storage shop, operators accommodation facility, sewer system, access roads, perimeter fences and porter’s lodge for El Morro Plant in jurisdiction of Yopal, Casanare.
  • Supply and construction of the 115 kVA power transmission line (including the substation) from Termoyopal to Yopal Substations, including enlargement works (civil works, erection and commissioning).
  • Supply, erection and commissioning of power transformers and other equipment of the Termoyopal Substation.
  • Supply, erection and commissioning of auxiliary services, control, monitoring and communications systems for the plant.
  • Supply, erection and commissioning of liquid separation, heating and filtration of the gas-conditioning equipment and fuel for the turbo-generating units.
  • Supply, erection and commissioning of the gas-conditioning monitoring system.
  • Supply, erection and commissioning of fire-detection and fire-fighting systems.
  • Environmental management: compliance with Environmental Management Plans, permits and licenses processed before the national and regional authorities as legal requirement of the environmental legislation and mitigation of unforeseen impacts within the project’s natural environment. Accompaniment of the communities affected by the project, environment awareness and education programs given to the community, creation of new jobs and landscape profiling.

Technical characteristics

Turbo-generating units:

The power station, with an area of 24,300 m2, houses two -one 30 MW, one 20 MW- General Electric turbo-generators. The units are composed mainly of four functional subassemblies with their corresponding accessories: a turbo-compressor subassembly and three appurtenant subassemblies: generator, generator ancillary equipment and control room. All subassemblies are located within heat and acoustic-isolated booths as protection against environmental agents.

The subassemblies are enclosed structures that contain the necessary elements and systems for operating the turbo-generating equipment mounted on foundation-anchored independent frames. The subassemblies are linked together by means of gasket-screwed joints.

Turbo-generating systems:

Each turbo generator is equipped for operation with the following items: oil lubrication system, hydraulic system, oil control system, water-cooling system, starter system, cooling and air-seal system, fuel system and fire-fighting system.

Supply and gas-conditioning for the plant:

British Petroleum at Loreña’s Early Production Facilities (EPF) production wells furnish the turbo-generator gas, through a 300-m long, 10 “ gas pipe to the plant. Gas-conditioning is accomplished by means of liquid separation and condensation, filter and heating equipment, shut-down valves, pressure-control valves, and communications and inter-phase equipment supplied by BP’s piping system.

Control and administration building:

Composed of a 360-m2 reinforced concrete structure for supervision, control and communication between the plant and the CAB.

Storage facility - Shop:

A 390-m2 reinforced concrete structure for storage of spare parts and supplies, in which the fire-fighting water pumps and diesel plant are housed.

Client:

TERMOYOPAL S.A. E.S.P.

Location:

Yopal, Adminstrative Depatment of Casanare (Colombia)
