Martin del Corral
Thermal Power Plant

The Martin del Corral Thermal Power Plant is operated by EMGESA S.A. E.S.P., which objective is to generate and sell electric energy obtained from combustion of mineral coal. It has an installed capacity of 235,5 MW.

The power station is composed of five vapor generating units (one currently out of service) that utilize coal as primary fuel-quite abundant in the vicinity of the plant-and fuel oil as optional fuel supply.

It has two coal storage yards with a 200,000-ton capacity, covering an area of 5,4 Ha.

The generation units are:

Unit I: start-up in July 1963; the power station initiated operations with this unit, currently out of service since May 1992; there are no plans to refurbish this unit now considered obsolete.

Unit II: start-up in December 1964, it is of the aquotubular type, including a General Electric turbo generator with a generating capacity of 37,5 MW and a Foster Wheeler boiler yielding 155, 6 tons/hour of vapor at 482,2 °C, at a pressure of 59.8 kg/cm2.

Unit III: start-up in January 1976, works occasionally depending on the energy requirements at any particular time; it is of the aquotubular type, and includes a Hitachi generator with a generating capacity of 66 MW and a boiler yielding 276, 6 tons/hour of vapor at 510°C at a pressure of 87,9 kg/cm2.

Unit IV: start-up in March 1981, it has the same characteristics
as unit III.

Unit V:
start-up in May 1984, works on and off, according to energy requirements.
