Yanacocha Mining:

Environmental audit and evaluation of Yanacocha Mining’s operations in Cajamarca, Peru. The specific scope of the audit and environmental evaluation consisted of the following tasks:

• Process water management practice.
• Site water management practice.
• Chemical substances and reactives practice.
• Hazardous materials management practice.
• Air quality control practice.
• Soils quality control practice.
• Evaluation of environmental management practice.
• Socioeconomic evaluation.
• Environmental management system.

Environmental sampling related to the following three aspects were conducted as support to the audit and environmental evaluation:

• Physicochemical quality of water.
• Hydrobiological communities.
• Quality of air.

The Contract was signed by UNOPS by request of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Peru, as part of an agreement reached at the Discussions Table convened to provide solution to the conflict that arose between Minera Yanacocha S.R.L.(MYSRL) and the local community within the area of influence of the mining operations and based on the Management and Support Services Agreement PROJECT PER/02/R32 in force between the Government of Peru and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
