Sogamoso Hydroelectric Project
The Environmental Impact Study was developed for the Sogamoso Hydroelectric
Project, including preparation of the environmental and social baseline,
assessment, description and prioritization of impacts and the Environmental
Management Plan. The studies included mainly the following aspects:
Biophysical aspects:
For the land ecosystem:
- Ecological
characterization of the area of influence (basin, project components
and reservoir areas). Flower and vegetation structure composition.
Vegetation sampling for biomass computation in areas to be intervened
by the project and by the floodable areas.
- Study
of land fauna, field sampling, ecological characterization.
- Soils
and geological studies. Uses of soil and vegetal cover.
- Climate
studies.
- Design
of programs for vegetation management and rescue of associated fauna,
preparation of the reservoir area and recovery of the landscape of
intervened areas. Follow-up and monitoring programs.
- Design
of solid waste (common leftovers, debris, etc).
-
Design of environmental management programs for borrow and disposal
areas.
For the aquatic ecosystems:
- Study
of hydrobiological communities (benthos, periphyton, phytoplankton)
in the basin. Ictiologic and fishing activities study in the basin.
Monitoring of the quality of water and modeling of the reservoir.
Hydrologic studies.
- Design
of aquatic management and monitoring programs.
For the social component:
- General
characterization of social conditions in the areas of influence of
the project Revision of secondary information, fieldwork, interviews
and direct observation.
- Social
diagnosis of the local population affected by the project. Fieldwork.
Interviews and direct observation. Design and development of consultation
workshops with the community and application of the socioeconomic
and property census.
- Design
of the social management programs, amongst which are the population
resettlement program and the information and compromise program with
the community.
- Regional
and local archaeological study. Design of archaeological recovery
programs.
