San Rafael Reservoir

San Rafael Reservoir Environmental Monitoring Program.

San Rafael Reservoir environmental monitoring program was undertaken before initiation of the construction stage, during the works, and two years thereafter. Monitoring was performed on the aquatic system by evaluating the physicochemical and biological parameters (benthos, periphyton, phytoplankton, zooplankton) and by modeling the quality of pond water. Monitoring was conducted along the Teusacá River basin and in the reservoir area after reservoir filling.

A social conditions characterization was conducted within the areas of influence of the project through revision of secondary data, fieldwork, interviews and direct observation as well as the social characterization of the population directly affected by the project.
