Bucaramanga water supply system
The Environmental Study of Alternatives report was prepared during the
feasibility studies of the project, in which an environmental and social
diagnosis of the Umpalá, Manso and Oro river basins was conducted.
The environmental analysis of the proposed options was undertaken by
identifying sensitive and vulnerable areas and the identification and
description of impacts, which enabled defining the most viable alternative
from the social and environmental standpoints.
During the design stage the Environmental Impact Study of the selected
alternative was prepared. During the study the following activities
were developed:
- Ecologic
characterization of the basins.
- Study
of the vegetation through field sampling and computation of
the biomass affected by the works.
- Characterization
of associated fauna.
- Climate
and hydrology study of the basins involved in the project.
- Geological
and soils study.
- Inventory
of basin water use downstream of intake sites.
- Socioeconomic
study of the communities within the area of influence. Application
of the census, fieldwork, visits and interviews. Design and
execution of the consultation process with the communities in
the area of influence.
- Identification,
evaluation and prioritization of environmental impacts.
- Design
of social and environmental management programs.
- Design
of the follow-up and monitoring program.
