Chingaza (Expansion)
The Chingaza System is the main water supply source for the City of
Bogotá. Located 55 km northeast of the city within the premises
of the Chingaza National Park. Given its hydropower potential, Ingetec
S.A. lead the studies and designs to expand the current system, consisting
of the optimization and design of the following works.
Main characteristics:
The revised
project consists of the following structures:
- North
Chuza diversions to the reservoir, with a mean flow of 3,9 m³/sec,
and Southeast Chingaza diversions towards the current Guatiquia River
intake, contributing with an additional mean flow of 1,0 m³/sec,
for a total 4,9 m³/sec. These diversions consist of 52 intakes
and the diversion of water through a 63 km conveyance system composed
of concrete pipes, open channels and tunnels.
- Pumping
of a 300 lt/sec seepage taking place through the Golillas dam, collected
at its downstream toe, back to the reservoir.
- La Playa
reservoir, with a storage capacity of 127 Mm³, constructed on
a tributary of the Guatiquia River, upstream of the site where the
river is currently diverted towards the Chuza reservoir. Water is
impounded by means of a 90-m high 2.0 Mm³ earth dam.
- Emergency
spillway for the Chuza reservoir, with a discharge capacity of 262
m³/s.
The proposed
works would ensure a mean water flow of 5,0 m³/sec, to be finally
harnessed for hydropower at the Guavio and Bogotá Rivers hydroelectric
systems yielding approximately 220 GWh/year. The new water conveyance
system implies 3.0 and 9.4 years for construction of each stage.
